Marcela M. Gomez

Marcela M. Gomez is in charge of collecting and analyzing data on Pitt’s research activities to provide a deeper understanding of the research landscape at the University. She develops dashboards and reports on research metrics that can help assess and advance research at Pitt. She also applies machine learning techniques that can help extract further value from the available data. Gomez interacts continuously with the senior leadership within the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Research (OSVCR) to create a comprehensive, data-oriented view of the operations of the offices that are part of Pitt Research.

Gomez has an undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering from Universidad del Azuay in Cuenca, Ecuador. She obtained a Master's in Telecommunications in 2012, from the University of Pittsburgh as a Fulbright Scholar, and a PhD in Information Science in 2017, also from Pitt. Prior to joining OSVCR, Gomez was a Visiting Research Assistant Professor at the School of Computing and Information at Pitt.
